About Glyn Blackett, Coach & Therapist

As a student (I studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University) I suffered quite a bit of social anxiety. I learned mindfulness meditation, but though I was committed I found my mind highly distractable.

Ten years on, I knew mindfulness wasn't really working for me, so I began to investigate how science and technology could help me - especially with focus and concentration in meditation practice. That was when I first encountered biofeedback and neurofeedback.

Biofeedback helped me to calm my agitated mind, and sharpen my focus and clarity, so that I really started to feel I was getting somewhere with my mindfulness practice. I learned to let go of negative emotions and create the basis for positivity to arise. It wasn't long before I decided to make a career of biofeedback, and it's been my passion ever since.

I first trained in solution-focused psychotherapy, then biofeedback and neurofeedback. Later, when mindfulness-based therapy emerged as a popular evidence-based therapy it was natural progression for me.

Noticing that a lot of my clients had underlying health problems such as chronic fatigue, IBS and other gastrointestinal issues, I realised I needed to broaden my approach. I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist and later trained in functional medicine.

Although my personal meditation practice benefited from biofeedback, I knew there was still untapped potential, and that led me to start developing my own software (I'd been a programmer in my early career). Eventually this work led to a product I knew could help my clients too. I began renting out simple but powerful biofeedback devices. Biofeedback is now an important part of my professional practice.

As I started to get clients who travelled a long way to my office, and I began thinking about how I could better support them - although they could rent biofeedback devices for home use they needed to learn how to work with biofeedback. I wrote my first book, "Mind-Body Intelligence: How to manage your mind using biofeedback and mindfulness" and later began working on video-based training material as the basis for a home based course in biofeedback for stress management.
